Descubre los principales tipos de exfoliación facial

Exfoliation is the natural process of skin cell renewal by removing dead cells from the epidermis. However, these cells do not fall off quickly, causing them to accumulate and release excess oil. This can cause our pores to become clogged, preventing the absorption of the rest of the ingredients and thus acquiring a flaky appearance.

Exfoliating our skin regularly will speed up this natural phenomenon, stimulating cell regeneration and blood microcirculation. This will make our skin look healthier.

Other benefits include: improving the appearance of sun-damaged skin ; reducing wrinkles; improving acne scars; and helping to make blemishes less visible.

It is very important to know how to choose which type of exfoliation is suitable for each type of skin and also depending on its needs. There are three types of exfoliants and today we will tell you what their differences are:

1. Mechanical/physical

Mechanical or physical exfoliants usually work on the most superficial layers of the skin and are applied with a gentle, circular massage, always on damp skin. They contain granules or microparticles that, through their mechanical effect on the skin, eliminate dead cells and dirt accumulated on it.

This type of exfoliant is recommended for normal or combination/oily skin , but if you have any type of rash or wound or even very sensitive skin , it can be counterproductive.

2. Chemist

Chemical exfoliants tend to be more aggressive due to the components they use, acids: glycolic, mandelic, azelaic, lactic , etc. They penetrate the deepest layers of the skin and thus not only eliminate dead cells, but also hydrate, stimulate collagen production and act as an antioxidant.

Tips to avoid adverse effects:

1.- Always use sun protection

2.- Start using them at lower concentrations and gradually increase until the skin gets used to them.

3.- Always use them at night

4.- Do not mix with retinoids

5.- Accentuate hydration

Sensitive skin should ensure that the concentrations are not too high, although we recommend enzymatic exfoliants more.

3. Enzymatic

Enzyme peeling is the gentlest exfoliating treatment available, which makes it the best option when treating very sensitive, reactive and delicate skin. This type of exfoliation is based on the use of natural active ingredients, usually from fruits such as papaya and pineapple , whose enzymes are capable of renewing the skin naturally.
